Blue Mountains man arrested over Katoomba bushfire

12 Jan, 2012 12:22 PM
A 34-year-old Blue Mountains man was arrested in Katoomba this morning (Thursday) following investigations into a bushfire deliberately lit at Katoomba Cascades on October 24.

Speaking at a press conference held at Katoomba Police station at 11am, Blue Mountains Police acting superintendent Rob Vellar described the arrest as "a tremendous result".

He said the man was co-operating with police and was expected to be charged later today with arson-related offences

"We will be alleging this man made the 000 call from a payphone after the fire was started," said acting superintendent Vellar.

He said the man’s arrest had no connection to bushfires deliberately-lit last September between Wentworth Falls and Katoomba, which resulted in a 17-year-old Katoomba boy and a 13-year-old Katoomba boy being arrested and charged with arson.
