Thousands of people helped Mt Victorians celebrate the power and elegance of steam trains last weekend - a mode of transport so crucial to the town's foundation in the late 19th Century.
Many arrived by steam train shuttles running to and from Katoomba in the wake of the classic 3801 tank engine.
The shuttles proved to be very popular and affordable, thanks to successful negotiations between the Rail Transport Museum and Ron Bayley from Mt Vic Flicks.
Other treats on the Great Train Weekend included the Mt Victoria and District Museum's railway display, Devonshire teas served in the heritage station's refreshment rooms, markets, jazz at Closeburn House, vintage car rides, brass bands, a school-based exhibition and Thomas the Tank Engine rides.
There was even a Zig Zag display featuring Platform nine-and-three-quarters and an appearance by Mt Victoria's Fat Controller.
