Lawson-based artist Susie Dureau has been announced as a finalist in the 2011 NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize.
‘Plein air’ refers to the tradition of painting out of doors, in direct engagement with the environment and the annual exhibition aims to showcase the very best in contemporary plein air painting talent from across the state.
Susie was short listed for her exceptional oil on paper card work entitled ‘Railway, Lawson NSW’ and the winner will be chosen by guest judge Glenn Barkley, curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art.
The winner is due to be announced today (Wednesday) May 18 by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and President of the Legislative Council.
If chosen as the winner, Susie will be awarded a total of $50,000 worth of prizes, including a $20,000 cash prize and a cruise for two aboard an Orion Expedition cruise.
The winning work will become part of the permanent collection of the NSW Parliament, joining works by the likes of celebrated landscape artist Lloyd Rees in an ever growing and significant collection for the people of NSW.
The finalists of the NSW Parliament Plein Air Painting Prize will be on display in the Fountain Court of the NSW Parliament from Friday, May 27. Entry is free and doors are open from 8.30am to 5.45pm Monday to Friday only.
