Rail museum's rocky road could end soon

06 Jun, 2007 10:31 AM
Ward 3 Clr Daniel Myles has called for the 2007/08 council budget to include as a priority the completion of the access road to the rail museum and the Springwood Boys and Girls' Club at Tusculum Road, Valley Heights.

"This has been going on for far too long," said Clr Myles.

"Tusculum Road and all the internal roads are sealed - there is just this unsealed link. The upcoming budget gives us a chance to bring the access to these excellent facilities up to standard."

The unsealed portion of the driveway covers 30 metres and carries considerable traffic during the rail museum's regular open days as well as the sporting activites at the boys and girls' club.

"There are other issues as well as the traffic," said Clr Myles.

"A considerable amount of dirt is washed off the surface and onto the cycleway on Tusculum Road. This is a grave hazard to cyclists and one that can be easily remedied by sealing the dirt section. We've now got $30,000 from the Rail Infrastructure Corporation to finish this off. I'm calling for the council to match this amount up to the project cost - which should be about a further $21,000."

Council will finalise its 2007/08 budget at the council meeting on Tuesday,June 26.
