Blue Mountains Orchestra’s final concert for 2009 will take place at Springwood Civic Centre this Saturday, September 19 at 8pm.
A wide range of popular music will be performed, from Pachelbel’s Canon, Greensleeves and Blue Danube to the themes from Harry Potter, The Empire Strikes Back and Moon River.
Talented 14-year-old violinist Alison Laurens, guitarist Eddie Boyd and Year 12 Winmalee High School pianists Rebecca Crouch and Shaun Weisbrodt will be guest performers.
Additionally, orchestra members will provide three solos. Eighteen-year-old violinist Stephen Smith will play Faure’s After a Dream with the strin section. Stephen also plays violin and piano, and is currently understudying Rolf in the Blue Mountains Musical Society production of the Sound of Music.
Danielle Burns will play the first movement of Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No.1 with the orchestra. As well as being a music teacher, Danielle directs Penrith City Band and has also composed Fanfare and Serenade for Wind Band, which in 2007 was premiered in Beijing.
David Aynsley’s solo is Teasdale’s The Jockey. He has played trombone for 46 years in many orchestras and bands including Sydney Symphony Orchestra and New Zealand Broadcasting Corporation. David has also conducted and taught a variety of band groups and directed musical productions.
Blue Mountains Orchestra has also played two of his compositions.
