Police say they are baffled after the manager of Springwood Sports Club walked out of the club early Tuesday morning and vanished, leaving his car in the car park.
Bruce Walker, 54, was last seen on CCTV footage leaving the club on Macquarie Road, Springwood, about 4am yesterday.
Police have no idea where he went after leaving the club, or which direction he went in.
He was reported missing by his wife on Tuesday afternoon.
Springwood Sport Club chairman Eddy Harris expressed concern over Mr Walker's disappearance on Wednesday, July 1.
"Whilst police investigations are ongoing our concerns and focus are on his wellbeing and safe return," he said in a statement.
"Bruce is an integral part of the management team at the club. Whilst his disappearance is a mystery and unsettling we are hoping that he is found safe and well.
"To alleviate any doubts on the viability of the club, I can report that our membership has increased to over 9000 and business continues to improve every day we operate."
Mr Walker had finished working at the club when he went missing, said Inspector Peter Scheinflug from Springwood Police.
"People who work in these places sometimes work at unusual hours,'' he said.
"The frustrating thing is there's no specific indication on any particular way he may have gone.
"That makes it difficult for us to know where to concentrate where we look.
"We've looked at the immediate environmental surrounds, we've been through the club, seen CCTV footage, and checked CityRail cameras to see if he went to the station and got on a train."
Also adding to the challenge was the fact a number of hours had lapsed between when Mr Walker was last seen leaving the club and when he was reported missing to police by his wife, Inspector Scheinflug said.
"I don't know what exactly prompted her, but she got to the club in the early afternoon [to look for him] and they've gone into his office and seen that he wasn't there.''
Police were then called, and Mr Walker's car was discovered in the club car park with his personal items inside, Inspector Scheinflug said.
Mr Walker lives in Mulgoa, about 30 minutes drive from the club.
He is married and has adult children.
While there was nothing suspicious about his disappearance, Inspector Scheinflug said there were "a couple of other things going on in the background'' in Mr Walker's life, but would not elaborate.
Mr Walker was last seen wearing blue jeans, a grey jumper, a red collared shirt and white joggers.
He was described as being of white or European appearance, of heavy build and with greying dark hair.
He also had a slight limp.
Anyone who might have seen Mr Walker can contact Springwood Police on 4751 0299 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
