Porter is Scorchers' player of the year

Springwood Scorchers Youth League representative Matt Porter has won the prestigious Senior Male Player of the Year award, after starring for his team throughout the 2009 representative season.

Porter helped guide the Scorchers into this year’s playoff series, where they eventually ended their season with a gallant 87-68 quarter final loss to the competition’s raging hot favourites, the Blacktown Storm.

Youngsters Darcy Burns-Dunn (U14 women) and Joshua Anderson (U14 men) took out this year’s Junior Female and Junior Male Player of the Year awards respectively, whilst Kathy Kuypers won the Coach of the Year award.

The full list of award recipients is shown below:

Under 12 Women: Sophie Burke MVP; Natasha Stork, Coach’s Award; Nakia Tyrrell, Most Improved.

Under 14 Women, Elisha Venesjarvi MVP; Kara Vander Voort, Coach’s Award; Rebecca Heins, Most Improved.

Under 14 Men: Joshua Anderson MVP; Jonathon Chadwick, Coach’s Award; Adam Lewis and Jack Goodwin, Most Improved.

Under 16 Women: Ashley Lambert MVP; Helene Wittnauer, Coach’s Award; Lucinda Byrne, Most Improved.

Under 16 Men: Ben Mallia MVP; Den Starmans, Coach’s Award, Filip Radulovic, Most Improved.

Under 18 Men: Danny Hind MVP; Lewis Gould-Fensom, Coach’s Award; Harry Alexander, Most Improved.

Youth League Men: Matt Porter MVP; Peter Fitzgibbon, Coach’s Award; Blake Roberts, Most Improved.

State League Men: Rimond Abboud, Best & Fairest; Lee Van Hoogenvest, Coach’s Award; Jason McBride, Most Consistent.

Referee of the Year: Tahn O’Rourke. Coach of the Year: Kathy Kuypers. Senior Male Player of the Year: Matt Porter. Junior Female Player of the Year: Darcy Burns-Dunn. Junior Male Player of the Year: Joshua Anderson.
