Katoomba Falls Reserve is a lovely place to play cricket, but it will be particularly pretty on Saturday, November 7 when Leura’s cricketers take to the field in pink in support of the McGrath Foundation (MF).
The lads from Leura will add a bright pink stripe to their cricket whites as their top-of-the-table first grade side plays Wentworth Falls and their third grade side plays Hazelbrook.
The club is inviting the public to enjoy a great day of top Blue Mountains Cricket Association competition and help to raise money for families affected by breast cancer.
Club president and first grade captain Clint Egan said the players decided to hold a Jane McGrath Charity Match Day last year to promote the club and help breast cancer treatment in Australia.
“We just wanted to do it, support MF and get more people involved in the club.
“More than $2000 was raised and it was such a success we’ve decided to make it an annual event.
“Blue Mountains Cricket Association is very supportive and hopefully it will be a success again on November 7.
“All donations and proceeds made on the day will go to MF.”
Members of the public can make a gold coin donation, buy a snack at the sausage sizzle or purchase MF merchandise at Katoomba Falls Reserve.
MF aims to fulfill the wish of Jane McGrath — the late wife of former Australian cricketer Glenn McGrath — to provide access to a breast care nurse for every family affected by breast cancer regardless of where they live.
It also works to educate Australian women to ensure breast checks become a part of their regular health routine.
