THE future of former No. 3 draft pick Aaron Fiora is in doubt after he was axed by St Kilda yesterday.
The 27-year-old midfielder was delisted by the Saints after four years at the club, during which he managed 62 games, for a career total of 140 games.
Fiora began his AFL career as a top-10 draft pick with Richmond in 2000, but managed only 72 games before being traded to the Saints in 2004.
While he had a solid 2007, Fiora struggled in 2008, playing only 10 games.
It is unknown whether Fiora intends to nominate for the pre-season draft.
The Saints have also secured the services of Xavier Clarke and James Gwilt, with the two committing to the club until the end of 2009.
■North Melbourne has delisted Leigh Brown after five years at the club. Brown played 181 games in his eight years in the AFL, including 63 for Fremantle.
The Kangaroos have also elevated rookies Michael Wundke and Nathan Grima onto their senior list, and have delisted rookie Alan Obst.
■Hawthorn has signed the son of former captain and four-time premiership player Chris Langford, Will, under the club's NSW scholarship program. Langford will not be eligible for the draft until 2010.
The Hawks also intend to add former NSW scholarship player Will Sierakowski to their 2009 rookie list. Hawthorn now has seven players signed up under its NSW scholarship scheme.
And the club has scrapped 2008 rookies Hugh Sandilands, Alex Grima and Matt Suckling from its list for 2009.
■Collingwood has appointed the former coach of St Bede's Amateur Football Club, Luke Beveridge, as its new development coach.
Beveridge played more than 100 AFL games with Melbourne, Footscray and St Kilda and coached St Bede's to three consecutive premierships between 2006 and 2008.
Beveridge will replace Alan Richardson, who has taken an assistant coaching role at Essendon.
The Magpies have also announced the elevation of rookies Sharrod Wellingham and Brent Macaffer onto their senior list for 2009, while they have also axed 18-year-old Tobias Thoolen.
■Melbourne has elevated star rookie Austin Wonaeamirri to its senior list after an outstanding debut season. Wonaeamirri played 18 games in 2008 and was instrumental in the Demons' first win of the season, a remarkable comeback against Fremantle in round seven. Wonaeamirri was also the Demons' second-highest goalkicker in 2008, with 24 goals.
■Richmond has delisted David Gourdis. The Tigers picked up Gourdis with their first pick in this year's pre-season draft after being overlooked in last year's national draft, but he did not play a senior game.
■Fremantle defender Antoni Grover has extended his contract with the Dockers until the end of 2010. Grover is only four games away from becoming the second indigenous player to play 150 games for Fremantle, which will earn him a life membership.
■Port Adelaide has elevated rookie Nick Salter to its senior list for 2009.
■West Coast will decide next week whether to make a pre-season draft pitch for former West Australian junior Chris Johnson after the 22-year-old yesterday told Melbourne he wanted to leave.
Johnson was delisted by the Demons after he rejected a one-year contract offer.
Carlton is believed to be willing to offer Johnson a two-year deal and is the frontrunner for the left-footer but the Eagles and St Kilda have shown some interest recently.
Johnson played 31 games over four seasons for Melbourne, including 10 in 2008 when he had 24 or more possessions for four games in a row.
Despite playing eight games in succession between rounds 12 and 19, Johnson missed the last three weeks of the season.
While Carlton has shown most interest to date, West Coast and Fremantle will both take picks in the pre-season draft before the Blues.
Fremantle is expected to trial a number of delisted players, including former Brisbane Lions forward Matthew Moody, 23, over a four-week period when its pre-season campaign steps up on Monday.
