New community buses for Blue Mountains

Two brand new Blue Mountains City Council Community Access Buses hit the road on Tuesday, February 12.

Blue Mountains City Council launched the 21-seater Toyota Coaster buses in conjunction with Great Community Transport. They replace the well-used, manual Coasters that have been in service for more than seven years.

Typical Upper Mountains weather provided a misty backdrop for the launch at The Conservation Hut in Wentworth Falls.

Ward 2 Councillor Chris Van Der Kley, Great Community Transport manager, Helen Walker, as well as volunteer drivers and representatives from various community groups attended the event.

Following the official proceedings, volunteers and groups had a rare chance to meet one another,  as well as the staff and organisers, that make the access bus a success.

A volunteer driver summed up the overriding sentiment, describing the new buses as “a marvellous and noble gesture by Blue Mountains Council”.

The buses are available to hire for not-for-profit community groups in the Blue Mountains.

For more information about the service contact Erin English on 4759-3260 on Tuesday, Thursday or Friday.
