Radio Blue Mountains will host a major debate between the three candidates from the major parties for the Macquarie Electorate on Sunday, August 18 at the Wentworth Falls School of Arts.
Sitting Liberal MP for Macquarie, Louise Markus, Labor candidate Susan Templeman, and Greens candidate Danielle Wheeler will attend.
Seating to the debate is available for 100 people. It will be moderated by Radio Blue Mountains presenter Peter Walker who has interviewed each of the candidates on his weekly Talking Points program on Tuesdays from 2-4pm.
“Radio Blue Mountains is a community radio station and we want our listeners to have the chance to hear what each of the candidates proposes for the seat of Macquarie and why they should be elected to represent the electorate,” said Mark Horton, Radio Blue Mountains president.
“Each candidate will be given the opportunity to outline their proposals for the electorate as well as provide information about their policies on specific subjects such as the environment, small business, health and education. Equal time will be given to each candidate.”
Presenter Peter Walker, who also co-ordinates the stations special events, said “to make it fair” the station was “sending 30 tickets to each of the candidates — you need to contact the candidate to go”.
Mr Walker has been presenting at the station for the past year. Previously he worked as a journalist at The Sydney Morning Herald and later ran his own public relations firm for 25 years. He has retired and lives in Wentworth Falls.
The debate will be broadcast on 89.1 FM twice — on Tuesday August 20 at 2pm and again at 5pm on Wednesday August 21.
