A teenager was charged last week with murdering a Valley Heights man.
The man was bashed in a Parramatta pedestrian mall on Thursday night, September 26. The Gazette understands he was 60-year-old Phillip Thackray.
Police were called to Church Street Mall at 9.30pm on Thursday where they found the Valley Heights man unconscious.
They believe he was the victim of an unprovoked attack by the accused.
Passers-by tried to revive the man but he died later at Westmead Hospital.
The man has yet to be formally identified and a post-mortem examination is still to be done, but it’s believed he may have died as a result of head injuries.
The accused, a 17-year-old boy from Constitution Hill, was arrested late on Friday night at a house in that suburb and charged with murder. He appeared in Parramatta Children’s Court on Saturday via audio-visual link from the Cobham Juvenile Justice Centre. He did not apply for bail and was remanded in custody until October 4.
