St Thomas Aquinas Primary School principal Sergio Rosato has been named Blue Mountains Citizen of the Year.
Mr Rosato was awarded the honour at a Blue Mountains City Council ceremony at Lawson. He won praise in the October bushfires for leading 550 students from the Springwood school to safety while his own home was burning at Winmalee.
Ultra distance runner Brendan Davies, of Woodford, was named Blue Mountains Sportsperson of the Year.
Claire Brown was named Young Citizen of the Year for her role nurturing and developing young musicians.
In the national honours, Bob Weaver of Blackheath was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the community, particularly through nursing in mental health and disability services.
Valley Heights resident David Manzi was also awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the community through Rotary, the Red Shield Appeal and various sporting clubs.
Blackheath's Averil Gibson, who died last year, was posthumously awarded an OAM for her work as a children's nurse and for her service to the Blue Mountains community.
Woodford's Murray Traynor received the Ambulance Service Medal for his 27 year career with the Ambulance Service of NSW.
