Referee Ben Cummins is set to retain his position in first grade despite his incredible blunder at Suncorp Stadium on Friday night.
Cummins incorrectly sent Brisbane's Matt Gillett to the sin bin in Friday night's clash against St George Illawarra for being offside, despite the Broncos back-rower running 40 metres to make the tackle.
However, referees boss Tony Archer is expected to spare Cummins from the axe, reluctant to drop one of his premier referees for one mistake.
Fairfax Media has been told Archer doesn't like to relegate his referees based on one incorrect decision, only making the tough calls for repeated mistakes.
While Brisbane faltered during Gillett's time off the field, they managed to hold on to claim victory and save Cummins from what might have been a lethal backlash from the Broncos if they had lost.
Roosters skipper Anthony Minichiello said he hoped the officials got it right in time for the finals.
"Everyone's human, they make mistakes, but I suppose in that case when you look back at it, it's pretty clear," Minichiello said of the incorrect call.
"We just hope you can minimise those as much as you can.
"There are always going to be mistakes and you've got to get on with it and hopefully it evens out during the year. It's a professional game and they work on what they need to work on through the week. They look at video as much as we look at video. They're always trying to improve as we're always trying to improve as well."
