Almost everyone knows someone who has had to deal with the suffering that is part of a cancer diagnosis.
The Chris O'Brien Lifehouse at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital is a recently established world-class cancer treatment and research facility providing integrated care and support services to both public and private patients, and its services have benefitted many from the Blue Mountains.
To raise funds to support this wonderful facility, chef Andrew Neale from the Blue Mountains International Hotel Management School is leading team "Blue Magic" in the Sunsuper Ride to Conquer Cancer. Team Blue Magic will cycle over 200 kilometres with thousands of other riders.
Mr Neale said "cancer has touched my family so this is an event close to my heart. The event is amazing and there is a big sense of community and camaraderie as we all work together to raise funds for such an important cause. We really feel there is strength in numbers."
As part of the challenge, each rider has to raise a minimum of $2,500 to participate in the ride. Money raised goes to the Lifehouse.
To raise these funds, this talented chef is preparing a stunning three-course gourmet fundraising dinner in the Chambers Restaurant at the Hotel Management School in Leura on Saturday, September 13.
Live music and auctions of artwork and other generous donations from the community will assist team Blue Magic to participate in the ride.
Over the past two years, the team has raised $56,000 and this year hopes to double that amount. The events students at the school are working to create an unforgettable event and encourage everyone to come along and support team Blue Magic.
Tickets are available from the school on 4780 1600 during business hours and donations of items for the auction can be made to events lecturer Lis Bastian on 0407 437 553.
