RSPCA NSW's Blue Mountains Volunteer Branch is holding an information day to provide interested community members with an overview of the local shelter and canvas their ongoing support for its operations.
Local staff will be on hand to talk to those interested in volunteering. There are many ways to get involved and help the region's most vulnerable animals. There is something to suit everybody, including hands on animal assistance and enrichment, general maintenance and gardening.
Blue Mountains volunteer branch president David Caton says the community has been united in support since the announcement the shelter will remain operational.
"At recent stalls in Leura and Blackheath there was a lot of relief and congratulations for those responsible for keeping the shelter open," he said.
"We are hoping the interest sparked by recent events will translate into those truly passionate about animals becoming volunteers. There have been lots of offers and promises of help, and we are hoping to bring these to fruition," said Mr Caton.
The Blue Mountains shelter information day will run on Sunday, November 9, from 11am to 3pm at the shelter on 121-125 Mort Street in Katoomba.
