Labor's spokesperson for Macquarie Susan Templeman has called on the federal government to reverse "savage cuts" to the ABC and SBS.
Ms Templeman joined more than 1000 protesters in Sydney on Saturday to oppose the cuts.
"In the Blue Mountains, we especially appreciate the coverage the ABC provides in times of bushfire, and this was evident in the most recent Warrimoo fire," she said.
"It was also ABC reporters who helped to tell the stories of the 2013 fires and highlight gaps in state and federal government assistance.
"They, along with our own local Blue Mountains Gazette, provide exceptional coverage of these types of local disasters, and any threat to their ability to provide that public service needs to be reversed.
"Along with the journalism side, many Blue Mountains actors, writers, directors, musicians and other creative artists depend on the ABC and SBS backing innovative projects."
Federal Communications minister Malcolm Turnbull has maintained the ABC funding cuts should not affect programming.
Mr Turnbull has also said that all cost savings relating to the ABC "could be found in operational efficiencies".
"If the management of the ABC think they cannot find a 5 per cent saving through efficiencies, they are selling themselves short," he said.
"And they are letting down the people of whose resources and trust they are the custodians."
