Police have confirmed the human remains found in bushland on Easter Monday belong to Katoomba woman Ariel Livesey.
Blue Mountains crime manager Detective Inspector Mick Bostock told the Gazette a post-mortem carried out last Thursday confirmed the identity of the remains discovered at Katoomba but a cause of death was yet to be determined.
“At this stage police don’t believe the death was suspicious,” said Detective Inspector Bostock.
Ms Livesey’s remains were found by a member of the public in dense bushland near Murri Street on April 9. She was 30 years old when she went missing from her house — just 500 metres away — on October 24, 2003. Detective Inspector Bostock said since only skeletal remains were recovered, further forensic work would be needed to determine the cause of death. It was unclear how long that would take, he said.
