ATM damaged in ram raid

Brazen thieves stole money from an automatic teller machine after ramming a truck into a Blackheath shop earlier today (Wednesday).

The stolen Pantech truck was reversed into the Govetts Leap Road store about 1.20am today and CCTV footage captured the driver getting out of the vehicle and forcing open the doors, a police statement said.

"The truck was then used to dislodge the automatic teller machine," police stated.

"A second person, driving a stolen Nissan Urvan, is then believed to have assisted the truck driver in loading the ATM into the van.

"They then fled the scene with the Pantech truck dumped 50 metres away."

A crime scene was established and Blue Mountains police have canvassed the area in an attempt to find witnesses to the incident.

"Police would like to speak with anyone who saw people acting suspiciously in Blackheath last night or in the early hours of this morning," the statement said.

"The van used in the incident has not been located.

"It is a 1985 Nissan Urvan (NSW registration plates: AR 50 PN), white in colour with blue stripes along each side. It also features green curtains and damage to the tail gate."

Anyone with information should contact Katoomba police on 4782-8199 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
