Motorists have been warned to expect major roads out of Sydney to be congested from today with the Great Western Highway coming in for special mention.
With school holidays getting under way many people will be taking a break and authorities have advised anyone travelling south on the Hume Highway, F6, Monaro Highway and Kosciuszko Road to allow extra travel time.
"Delays are also expected on the Great Western Highway heading towards and over the Blue Mountains," said a Transport Management Centre spokeswoman.
Those heading north on the F3 and Pacific Highway are also likely to experience heavy traffic.
"Anyone taking off on holidays should make sure they plan their trip, slow down and take a break every two hours," said the spokeswoman.
