"We've got the best coffee in town," boasts Luke Mundy.
"We've got the only coffee in town," returns his mate, Ash Bookluck.
The new Bullaburra coffee cart, Coffee Creative, is indeed the only brew in the tiny village but, in just its first month, it has proved very successful.
It has been set up by two enterprising young locals - Mr Bookluck, 22, from Wentworth Falls, and Mr Mundy, 21, from Leura. Every weekday morning before the crack of dawn, they load up their espresso machine into the back of the car and drive it to their hand-made "bar" outside the Nothing New Vintage shop on the corner of the highway and Cooranga Street. They are operating five days a week from 6.30am to 2pm.
Both are coffee tragics, they explained. "We like coffee, it's our passion," said Mr Bookluck.
He trained as a barista at TAFE before travelling the world for a couple of years, including work making coffee in London.
He bought the espresso machine to teach others his craft; now, it is in service at the Coffee Creative cart.
He has also written a book about coffee, which he is hoping to find a publisher for.
"It's about how to teach coffee. It's an interactive learning guide with lots of pictures to get a better understanding of how to do it."
Mr Mundy has been working in cafes since he left school at Blue Mountains Grammar. The paid found themselves simultaneously at a loose end earlier this year.
"We had left our jobs," he said.
"We were both wondering what we were going to do."
They noticed the gap at Bullaburra, approached Joanne Jones, the owner of the second-hand shop, and they were away.
"If it wasn't for Joanne, we wouldn't be here and we would really like to thank her for having us," Mr Bookluck said. "I don't think there's too many people out there who'd be willing to give two young lads a go but she was."
As well as coffee, tea and hot chocolate, they also sell a small range of sandwiches. They've been serving early morning commuters, workers from the nearby roadworks and, increasingly, locals who pop down the road for a mid-morning caffeine hit.
Next the pair hope to get a second, mobile cart to take to football matches, markets and the like.
