Two colourful, entertaining murals sprung up in Warrimoo at the end of 2014, much to the delight of locals.
One is on a Telstra building near Warrimoo train station, the other on a private building at the rear of Possum Park on Arthur St, and features a scene from Dorothy Wall's second Blinky Bill book Blinky Bill Grows Up.
Retired teacher and Warrimoo resident Bob Treasure said Warrimoo's highway sign declared it was "Blinky Bill territory" but there was nothing to commemorate the iconic children's author and illustrator who lived in the township in the 1930s.
So, after seeing the Telstra exchange get tagged with graffiti time and time again, he thought a mural was fitting, and Telstra agreed. Then he sought permission from council to complete the one at Possum Park.
"Kids will see it and ask 'what's going on?' and hopefully read the book," Mr Treasure said.
He said the author wrote the second book when she lived in Warrimoo and would take her son Peter on walks from the end of Florabella Street into beautiful bushland. The bushland around Florabella Pass and Glenbrook Creek created much inspiration for her writings.
