For decades the Hydro Majestic hosted some of the world's best performers, including Australia's favourite Dame Nellie Melba and English opera singer Dame Clara Butt.
From Saturday, it will once again be a musical hub, albeit with a much more modern twist. First act on the cards is legendary trumpeter James Morrison, with an evening of jazz.
Morrison, like so many, has memories of the Hydro from his youth.
"I'm one of those people who went to the Hydro many, many years ago as a kid. We would put on our best clothes - I was about eight - and we had high tea. It was the fanciest place I had ever been. But I never imagined I would be back there playing."
He was thrilled to learn that the hotel has been refurbished and even more so to be invited to launch it as a music venue.
"I think it's going to be a great site," he said. His show on January 31 will be "classic jazz for a classic venue".
The Hydro has gathered an impressive line-up for shows in the ballroom. The acts include Richard Clapton, Dragon, Wendy Matthews, Tim Freedman, Galapagos Duck, Christine Anu, Tom Burlinson and Diesel.
There will also be "theme" shows, including Abba's Back, Back to Bacharach and Rumours: Fleetwood Mac Show as the Hydro positions itself as the newest Upper Mountains music venue.
Music promoter Karen-lee Goody, of Sydney-based company Entertainment Consulting, is working with owner Huong Nguyen and her team to bring marquee artists to the Hydro.
"Never before in the past 10 years has the Blue Mountains been able to host and feature such iconic and celebrated Australian and international artists on a weekly basis," Ms Goody said. "This will service the entertainment appetite for those that live between Penrith to Bathurst and for Sydneysiders that are looking for that great weekend away in the Mountains."
There will be tickets available for the show only, for dinner and the show, or a dinner, show and accommodation packages for those wanting to stay overnight.
"My aim, in conjunction with Huong and the others, is to help put the Blue Mountains and the Hydro Majestic on the map as a place to visit, stay, live, breathe, eat and be entertained - just like its former glory years, but with the most modernistic fresh touch and talent," Ms Goody said.
The shows will be on in the ballroom, unless there is a clash with another function, in which case they will be held in the Wintergarden.
