Glenmore Park local, Katherine Gellini, has recently been appointed to the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) to train to become a personnel capability officer in the Royal Australian Air Force.
The 17-year-old Penrith High School graduate was awarded the ADFA Education Award last year in recognition of outstanding achievement exhibited during the ADFA recruitment process.
“I strongly believe in the statement, ‘the standard you walk past is the standard you set,’ and I’m sure that with such a mindset and qualities I can succeed in the ADF.”

“It was a huge honour to receive such an award for something I care about so much,” Katherine said.
“I decided to join ADFA because I wanted an interesting and exciting career that offered a wide variety of opportunities to travel, meet like-minded people and one where I could challenge myself personally, physically and professionally.”
The combination of military training, education and skills Katherine will gain from her time at ADFA will prepare her to face any challenge and perform on the world stage as a leader in the ADF.
“My father is a serving member of the Air Force. Having a parent in the Defence Force provided me with amazing experiences, traveling alongside him from England to Cyprus and now to Australia. I aspire to have a similar rewarding and challenging career of my own, and what better way to start than through ADFA,” Katherine said.
“I strongly believe in the statement, ‘the standard you walk past is the standard you set,’ and I’m sure that with such a mindset and qualities I can succeed in the ADF.”
The appointment ceremony marks the moment Katherine officially becomes a member of ADF.
ADFA enables officer cadets and midshipmen to develop the necessary skills to be successful junior leaders of the ADF. These future leaders embody the best values of the services: courage, respect, integrity, service and professionalism.
