Oops - just as the new Hub in Springwood was taking its final shape, the demolition team has been called in.
Jackhammers and bulldozers were hard at work last week ripping down part of the newly built, but incomplete, carpark.
The problem was that the concrete was not thick enough.
One of the demolishers told the Gazette that the practice is to lay down under-floor cables then pour the cement. When it has cured the cables are then tightened. "But when they were doing that the cables all started coming up through the floor," he said.
A council spokeswoman said X-rays showed there wasn't enough concrete in one section of the upper level of the carpark. When the problem was discovered the project contractor Kane Constructions immediately set about to fix it, she said.
"The demolition and reconstruction is at no cost to council."
The demolition work is finished and the deck will now be rebuilt and repoured. Kane Constructions hopes to have it finished by mid-March, weather permitting.
"The majority of the new carpark will continue to remain open to members of the public during the rectification works," the council spokeswoman said. "The planned opening of the Blue Mountains Theatre and Community Hub will not be affected by these works."
