The Joan Sutherland Performing Arts Centre in Penrith celebrates its 25th anniversary with a community celebration day this Saturday, March 28 from 9am to 3pm.
The Joan invites the community to come along for a mega day of performing arts, including professional and community theatre and music performances, open workshops, circus and parkour demonstrations and exhibitions.
The day will include a 2pm performance by celebrated Australian singers Archie Roach and Christine Anu - this show is expected to sell out so audiences should snap up tickets quickly – as well as three performances of White, by Scotland’s Catherine Wheels Theatre Company, one of the world’s best theatre companies for children. Tickets need to be bought for these performances and are all available on The Joan’s website www.thejoan.com.au.
There will also be plenty of free entertainment, with a showcase of local performing arts talent from Penrith Conservatorium of Music, studioQ, Penrith Symphony Orchestra, Emu Heights Theatre Company and Nepean Creative and Performing Arts High School. Special guests Team 9Lives, who’ve spearheaded parkour in Western Sydney (and who will be part of Monkey…Journey to the West, at The Joan in October), will perform displays of urban acrobatics on the lawns adjacent to the centre.
There will be fun activities all day for people of all ages, lots of free things to do and a great chance to learn more about the creative hub. The Joan will be offering special one-day-deals on mini-subscriptions as well as a fabulous door prize for one lucky local. And, of course, what’s a celebration without a sausage sizzle? There’ll be one of those for sure!
Single tickets: Archie Roach & Christine Anu ($55/$50), White ($25/$20 or $76 family of 4)
