It's been wet, wet, wet this week in the Mountains and the heavy rain is expected to continue for the rest of the working week.
The Bureau of Meteorology's website showed that since 9am Monday, Mt Boyce had 101mm of rain. And by 7.30am Tuesday Katoomba showed an incredible 142mm of rain and 88mm for Springwood on the BOM website.
Gazette readers also reported rain in their own rain gauges exceeding 110 mm at Faulconbridge and as high as 145mm at Wentworth Falls.
There were numerous traffic problems caused by the rain with the Roads and Maritime Services advising motorists to exercise caution at Hawkesbury Heights after a rock fall. Roads were closed in both directions on Bells Line of Road near Kurrajong due to a fallen tree.
And traffic was blocked in both directions on Tuesday morning after a large tree came down on the Great Western Hwy at Medlow Bath with long delays in place.Trees also fell in Lawson, Warrimoo and Mt Riverview due to the softened ground. The traffic lights on the corner of Hawkesbury Rd and Ellison Rd stopped working during the rain on Tuesday.
Blue Mountains State Emergency Service volunteers were kept busy taking calls, mostly for calls for leaking roofs. Some 30 calls were logged with 10 jobs in progress involving tree removal from roofs.
"Ninety per cent of the calls related to poor maintenance [of roofs], some homes we had visited six months ago for the same problem," said spokesman John Hughes.
"We just make the homes safe and suggest they call a tradesman."
Mr Hughes said he expected most of the problems to ease by the end of Tuesday. For help with storm damage call the SES on 132500.
The weather is expected to clear for the weekend.
