A real magician is part of the entertainment at the annual Springwood Hospital Fete on Saturday, May 2.
Fete-goers will be able to marvel, for free, at what Magic Circle and International Brotherhood of Magicians member Peter Hughes calls the "vanishing art".
It's an art the engaging Wentworth Falls resident has taken to audiences overseas as well as to children and adults around the country at fairs, fetes and corporate gatherings. And in case anyone misses the magic it's on twice, at 9.45am and 11.30am.
The fete, in the garden grounds of Springwood's 32-bed public hospital in Huntley Grange Road, is a major fund- raiser for Springwood Hospital Auxiliary.
All money raised by the auxiliary goes into equipment purchases from a wish list provided by the hospital.
Opened in 1976, the hospital, part of the Nepean/Blue Mountains Local Health District, is today renowned for its "slow stream" rehabilitation work, and for its palliative care. Although not having an emergency department, the hospital is in demand for day surgery and for patients who might best benefit from the relaxed garden setting with high-level professional nursing care.
Funds raised from the fete will go towards the purchase of wheelchair-friendly garden furniture and a new electronic nurse call display and console for the wards.
