Blue Mountains Cancer Help (BMCH) has reached a major birthday milestone of 10 years providing important charity services to the people of the Blue Mountains.
To celebrate the achievement a special 10-year anniversary black tie dinner will be held at the Carrington Hotel in Katoomba on Thursday, May 28 with funds raised going towards BMCH.
BMCH Inc is a local-based organisation, unique in NSW, supporting people diagnosed with cancer across the region. Since inception in May 2005 it has supported more than 750 clients and their families dealing with cancer. Each new client is initially assessed by a registered nurse after which they may choose to access any of the charity's many support services. The charity aims to work alongside general practitioners and specialists to complement existing organisations such as community health, palliative care and other support networks.
Robyn Yates, CEO and founder of BMCH, said "from our humble beginnings in 2005, we are now able to support cancer clients and their families not only in the Blue Mountains, but also extended our services into the Penrith Valley in 2009".
"We are currently actively supporting over 306 clients across the region with the organisation providing both a sense of purpose, friendship and service to clients and their families."
Kerry Fryer, board member with BMCH and former CEO of Blue Mountains Tourism Limited, added: "The work that BMCH undertakes in supporting cancer clients and their families is unparalleled in NSW. As a cancer survivor, I doubt very much that I could have got through my illness as well as I did without the support from BMCH".
The anniversary dinner commences at 7pm and is a major fundraiser for the organisation with 80 per cent of the money raised going towards its future building fund and 20 per cent towards client therapies.
