The Winmalee-Springwood area could get its own outdoor exercise park if council backs a Rotary Club of Springwood initiative that aims to encourage active lifestyles.
Springwood Rotary Club president Ross Ingram said one of the group's directors, Colin Kenney, came up with the idea after seeing one being used in the Hawkesbury area.
"There's a park that goes alongside the RAAF base in Richmond that has exercise equipment about 80 metres apart," Mr Ingram said.
"It's much more basic than the equipment you see in a gym, but it is vandalism proof and offers a range of fitness exercises people can do."
Mr Ingram said fundraising efforts by the club would enable it to purchase all the exercise equipment.
He hopes council will approve the project and agree to cover any site preparation and installation costs for the park, the location of which is yet to be determined.
"We've come up with two sites that may be suitable for it - a grassy corner on the southern end of Springwood golf course behind the 17th green and near the tennis courts at Summerhayes Park on Hawkesbury Road in Winmalee - but it would be council's role to determine the most suitable site.
"We've approached our local (Ward 3) aldermen and they thought it was a good idea. We hope the council does too," Mr Ingram said.
Mr Kenney said it was a Rotary initiative to help rebuild the community after the devastation from the 2013 bushfires.
A notice of motion by Clr Mick Fell was passed at the council meeting on May 26 which will see council produce a report on the Rotary Club of Springwood's proposal "for a public exercise park in the area affected by the 2013 fires in Winmalee".
