Nuclear waste discussion
The Blue Mountains Nuclear Free Group (BMNFG), will host a public event in Katoomba about the dangers of the nuclear industry. The group has been active for more than 15 years, highlighting the risks of transporting radioactive waste from the Lucas Heights nuclear reactor across the Blue Mountains.
The Radioactive Exposure Tour is visiting the Mountains for one night only as they travel to Dubbo, Maralinga and other nuclear hotspots across the country. Dr Jim Green, Friends of the Earth campaigners and local activists will share the knowledge and experiences of their campaigns.
BMNFG spokesperson, Lesley Sammon, says that the problem of disposal of nuclear waste in Australia remains unresolved.
"Although our strong community opposition to the transport of radioactive waste has been listened to, we need to keep up community pressure to protect our community and others."
Everyone is welcome to attend and hear more about ongoing campaigns and the Radioactive Exposure Tour at 7pm, Monday, June 29, at the Uniting Church, 142 Katoomba St, Katoomba, with music, a film and supper.
