On Friday thousands of school kids around the country escaped the classroom and got their hands dirty to celebrate Schools Tree Day.
At Lawson Public School, the 20-member Green Team set about planting some nectarine and plum trees under the guidance of year 4-5 teacher Alicia Howard.
Mrs Howard said two students per class were represented in the Green Team which ran in conjunction with the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program, teaching kids cooking and gardening skills.
Schools Tree Day was the perfect opportunity to get the fruit trees in the ground.
"We saved them for national tree day ... it encourages the kids to have ownership of their surrounds," Mrs Howard said.
