A new music video filmed on top of the stunning Ruined Castle in the Blue Mountains will have its world premiere at Mount Vic Flicks this Sunday, August 2.
Melbourne-based artist Justin Hunter returned to his Katoomba roots to film the video for the track, Mountain Pass, from his new instrumental album, Eunopia.
A 15-person cast and crew set off at 4.30am last month to film the video - with the song's creator helping carry the heavy equipment to the remote location overlooking the Jamison Valley.
"Let's just say carrying a 40 kilo box up the Golden Stairs in the dark was something I won't forget in a hurry," said Hunter.
"The valley floor definitely transforms into another world come dusk/dark and given the subject matter that we have based the music video around, it definitely made us all a little nervous."
That subject matter is the mythical Blue Mountains black panther, a tale that fascinated Hunter as a child but made him sceptical as an adult.
But the musician, a keen ultra-marathon runner as well, became a believer again after several "panther" experiences while training in the Blue Mountains bush.
"Within the last six months I've experienced some extremely odd situations at Mt Solitary and at the bottom near the river... that has convinced me that there is absolutely, without a doubt, something out in the forest.
"Perhaps not the original black panther and co, but its spawn are definitely running free through the Mountains."
The music video is a true Blue Mountains effort with local businesses, Thunderbird, Theo Poulos Real Estate, Colliers Crystals and Lentez, also supporting the project.
The Mount Vic Flicks screening will take place at 6.45pm.
Eunopia is available on iTunes.
