After three years and five shows staged in a variety of theatres and venues in western Sydney, Blue Mountains Musical Society (BMMS) has announced their return to Springwood and the new Blue Mountains Theatre and Community Hub in October.
For this long-awaited return, BMMS will present the smash hit musical, The Phantom of the Opera.
To celebrate their return and to raise much needed funds, BMMS is hosting a masquerade ball in the new theatre on September 5. Complete with red carpet, masks and professional entertainment, the black tie event will be an evening to remember. Guests can expect an electric atmosphere under theatre lighting, full catering, big band onstage, dancing and guests dressed in their finest complete with masks.
There will also be a sneak peek of their upcoming production of The Phantom of the Opera.
Rehearsals for the show in October are currently underway under the direction of Virginia Fortunat and Jem Harding. The pair are teaming up for the second time after their successful BMMS production of Cats in November 2014.
Since 1986, BMMS has rehearsed and presented operetta, musical comedy, concerts and youth programs at the Springwood Civic Centre. In 2013, renovations began on the venue leaving the society without a home. That year BMMS produced Sweeney Todd at the Q Theatre in Penrith and also started the very popular showgroup program Showgroup On Show. In 2014, Monty Python's Spamalot was staged by BMMS at The Evan Theatre in Penrith Panthers.
Cats was also produced that year at the Lighthouse Theatre in Penrith Anglican College where Auslan-interpreted performance became a feature of BMMS productions for the first time. In 2015, BMMS returned to The Evan with The Who's Tommy.
