The Mountains’ newest early education centre is launching the Mountains’ newest art prize for local visual artists.
The Greenwood centre in Katoomba is offering six prizes of $500 plus a $500 donation made to each winning artist’s charity of choice.
The theme for the prize is “education” and Mountains artists are encouraged to create a photograph, painting, drawing, collage or sculpture reflecting the theme.
The idea stems from a famous quote from Nelson Mandela: “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”
The inaugural Greenwood Art Prize is being launched in conjunction with the opening of Greenwood Katoomba on the site of the former Katoomba Bowling Club.
Greenwood Early Education Centres provide the highest quality education for children aged 0-6 in a nurturing environment, and this new centre at Katoomba is set to become a thriving community hub.
Creativity forms an integral part of the Greenwood curriculum, and Greenwood Katoomba incorporates a freestanding art and music studio, specially designed for young children.
The winning artworks will be displayed in the centre.
The centre is also running complimentary yoga (November 29) and French lessons (December 6) for children and their families. Details will be posted on their Facebook page.
