More than 115 avid readers aged between six and 12 besieged Katoomba Library on November 21 in search of dragon eggs – and some of the most successful children’s authors and illustrators in the Blue Mountains were there to lend them a hand . . . and sign autographs.
There was also storytelling and singing, attended by Emily Rodda, Stephen Measday, Steven Herrick, James Roy, Dawn Meredith, Margaret Hamilton, Narelda Joy, Michel Streich and Patricia Bernard.
The event was presented by the Blue Mountains branch of the Children’s Book Council of Australia and hosted by Katoomba Library to promote the value of literature to children. Organisers said the sheer number of children that participated showed a love of books is thriving in our community.
Dawn Meredith’s new book Friend in a Shell was launched by Member for Blue Mountains Trish Doyle, illustrator Narelda Joy showed how to make a flying dragon and Steven Herrick read a poem from his book Untangling Spaghetti.
