Blue Mountains mayor Mark Greenhill officially opened an exciting new gallery space in Katoomba last month.
The mayor described the new gallery as a “gift to Katoomba”.
Owned by local residents, Sharon and Victor Peralta, Gallery ONE88 Fine Arts, is located at 188 Katoomba Street.
The Peraltas are widely known for their volunteer work within the Blue Mountains, particularly with Katoomba’s Winter Magic Festival and Art Street.
“We’ve lived in Katoomba for over 10 years and our artist hub is something we feel was always needed, something accessible for all artists and artisans – not just high profile artists,” said Sharon.
“We have watched Katoomba Street’s economics over recent years and we want to bring people back to Katoomba Street, to Katoomba businesses and we feel that this has the potential to do that”.
Victor said: “Gallery ONE88 is a curated exhibition space that allows established and emerging artists the opportunity to display their works, but we are not just a gallery. At Gallery ONE88 studios, workshops and professional office areas provide spaces for artists to meet with commission clients, create works and network with other like-minded people. We are seeking expressions of interest from artists to hold solo or collaborative exhibitions as well as studio space hire and we are also seeking life drawing models, modelling sessions will run twice a week on Wednesday and Sunday nights.”
To launch Gallery ONE88 Fine Arts, the opening exhibition featured two very talented contemporary artists, Kathryn Gallagher and Edmond Thommen.
GalleryONE88’s second exhibition opened on November 25 but will have its official launch Saturday, December 5 from 4-8pm. The featured artist on show in the Gallery is Victor Alejandro Peralta – A Retrospective - which features some of his work over the previous five years.
