A crowd of 400 attended the climate change rally in Springwood on Sunday (November 29).
The rally was one of many held across Australia and the world ahead of the United Nations talks in Paris.
The marches were held to impress on politicians that ordinary people recognise the need to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate the effects of climate change.
Labor candidate for Macquarie Susan Templeman outlined the Labor Party’s carbon emissions targets, in particular its pledge for net zero emissions by 2050.
Kerry Brown from the Greens also spoke but Macquarie MP, Louise Markus, who was invited to speak, did not reply to the invitation.
Other speakers included Aunty Carol Cooper, Tara Cameron from the Blue Mountains Conservation Society, David Wright from the social ecology program at Western Sydney University and Year 12 student, Courtney Daley.
Mayor Mark Greenhill spoke about the proposed Badgerys Creek airport and submissions outlining any objections could be made on the day to the Department of Infrastructure.
