There was no sign of the famous views – thanks to heavy mist – but it was still a party atmosphere at Blackheath on Saturday to mark 15 years since the listing of the Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area.
After a smoking ceremony and a performance by the Welcome Singers choir, Cr Don McGregor and Louise Markus both spoke about the importance of the listing.
The NSW Environment Minister, Mark Speakman, then launched a new book, Values for a New Generation, which outlines more of the cultural, historic, geological and Indigenous features of the heritage area.
The day finished with a new dance work created by Janelle Randall-Court about the male satin bowerbird, which gathers coloured materials to attract a mate. It reflected on the dangers of leaving rubbish in the bush.
