Yellow Rock residents will mark a major milestone in their recovery from the October 2013 bushfires this Saturday, February 6 when the town’s new fire station is officially opened.
The old Winmalee Rural Fire Brigade shed at Yellow Rock – housed on a member’s property – was one of the casualties of the 2013 fires. Brigade members vowed to rebuild a new, better station following the fires.
Oasis Horticulture, a nursery at Yellow Rock, donated the lease of land on Singles Ridge Road for the new station.
“The local community has been fantastic with the donation of funds, and generously giving of time and materials to ensure the completion of the project,” said a brigade spokeswoman. “Winmalee Rural Fire Brigade’s station at Yellow Rock will symbolise the community’s resilience, and determination to survive in the beautiful, but bushfire prone area that is the Blue Mountains.”
The station will be officially opened at 11am by the NSW RFS Assistant Commissioner, Rob Rogers, at 234-236 Singles Ridge Road.
