Visitors to Katoomba’s Scenic World were treated to traditional lion dancing and delicious Chinese fare over the weekend to mark the start of the Chinese New Year. And for the first time the tourist attraction’s front plaza was also transformed into a fun outdoor table tennis arena with guests vying to be the original Scenic World Ping Pong Pro.
Scenic World co-managing director, Anthea Hammon, said they had seen a greater than 24 per cent increase in Chinese visitors from 2014 to 2015.
“Our Chinese visitors, along with everyone else who comes to Scenic World, love the unique experience of accessing the Jurassic rainforest and taking in the views of the Three Sisters, Jamison Valley and Katoomba Falls, by riding on the world’s steepest railway and our other cable cars,” Ms Hammon said.
While the main festivities kicked off last Saturday to usher in the Year of the Monkey, celebrations will continue until February 14.
The Jin Wu Koon Dragon and Lion Dance performers are one of Australia’s oldest traditional lion dance troupes.
“The lion dance performance and acrobatics are said to bring prosperity and good fortune and are always popular,” said Ms Hammon.
