Talk about the definition of wandering. Blue Mountains Wanderers fans Nicki Christensen and sons Tiernan, 24, and Nemiah, 14, proved their devotion to their footy code when they made a 41-hour road trip over the weekend to see their team in action.
Buses of fans left Seven Hills on Saturday morning en route to Adelaide to cheer on their team in the A-League title clash. The Christensens were joined by fellow Mountains die hard fans, Leanne Kent and son, Jordan Ryan.
While the 3-1 loss to Adelaide United wasn’t the result they had hoped for, the almost 3,000 km journey was worth it. “To be part of a wonderful road trip interstate with fellow supporters reinforced the focus of fans – being family. We are vocal and passionate whether we win or lose, so unsurprisingly the vibe on the bus on the way home didn’t change. Although we may have been disappointed, we were proud of our team’s efforts.”
The family survived on a few hours sleep on both journeys, but said they “would do it again in a heartbeat”. “The three of us will remember it for a lifetime.”
