Peter Tracey will be running to save lives when he embarks on a trek from Dubbo to Springwood tomorrow.
The Springwood resident will be joined by 11 other locals when he takes his first steps in support of the Adam Crouch Foundation in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Adam Crouch was a Springwood boy who drowned in a friend’s backyard pool in October, 2007. The run will raise money for learn-to-swim classes so other families don’t have to experience the same tragedy.
“We’ve aligned ourselves with Gateway Family Services at East Blaxland. We’re paying for swimming classes for families who can’t afford to put their kids through classes,” said Mr Tracey, who is a director of the foundation.
Eight runners took part in the first Dubbo to Springwood run last year, with the event attracting media interest along the route.
While they took three days to complete the run in 2011, this year the group hopes to arrive at Springwood’s Royal Hotel about 6pm this Friday, October 12.
The charity run marks a weekend of events for the Adam Crouch Foundation with a trivia night held at Springwood Sports Club this Saturday, October 13.
Raffle prizes on the night will include a 2010 NRL Dragons Premiership framed jersey, an NRL ball signed by Benji Marshall, and flight simulator experiences from VS Jet at The Edge in Katoomba.
