Readers don't want to be 'babied', says A Little Life author Hanya Yanagihara

 Hanya Yanagihara's A Little Life is literary fiction not for the faint-hearted. Long at 720 pages, it ranges over disquieting material of child neglect and abuse, to the extent that the cruelty piled upon the protagonist Jude in this story of four New York friends, becomes almost unbearable to read.
