The Penrith Basketball Association has endured yet another weekend in the doldrums in round 11 of the 2016 Waratah Youth League competition.
All three teams were on the road for the weekend, with the division one men turning in an absolute shocker against the lowly-ranked Moss Vale Magic in Moss Vale, falling 68-66.
The Panthers were runaway 97-40 winners in the first meeting between the two teams this year but the Magic fielded a stronger line-up on their home court, staging a 59-point turn-around to claim an upset win.
Penrith coach Jeff Cooper said “They [Moss Vale] played well.
“We [Penrith] were terrible with finishing off, defensively not good and gave up second chance opportunities”.
Bryden Albertyn led the Panthers with 14 points, ahead of Sean Weekes, 13, and Shol Mashwang, 10.
The division one women were at Minto and had little trouble overwhelming the wooden spoon favourites, the South West Sydney Razorbacks, recording a 73-43 win.
Emily Potts and Ella Tofaeono led the Panthers with 17 points apiece, ahead of Dominka Offner and Chloe Bloom with 11 points apiece and Natalia Beaumont (Emu Heights) 8.
The division two men were at Castle Hill on Sunday and were confident of pushing second-placed Hills District, only to fall 77-52.
Penrith assistant coach Adam Peterson said: “We [Penrith] held them for two quarters but could not get into the game.
“Very inconsistent calls all game and any doubtful decision tended to favour the home team.”
Marshall Ndebele led the Panthers with 16 points, ahead of Joel Klein, 12.
The association will host a triple-header of games this Sunday, with the division one teams facing the Northern Suburbs Bears on main court one (men at 1pm, women at 3pm) and the division two men hosting the St George Saints at 3pm on main court two.
