A man charged over an alleged terrorist plot in Sydney is a self-styled Facebook preacher who spreads his own religious teachings via social media including an order to hate all non-Muslims.
Farhad Said, 24, was arrested near his Bankstown home on Thursday morning and charged with conspiring to conduct an act in preparation for a terrorist act in December, 2014.
It is alleged he took part in writing scribbled notes that identified possible targets for a terrorist attack, including the Australian Federal Police headquarters in Sydney, NSW police buildings and the Garden Island Naval Base.
The notes also allegedly mentioned beheadings and "guerilla warfare" in the Blue Mountains, Fairfax Media understands.
Seven other men have been arrested over the notes, including outspoken extremist Sulayman Khalid, 21, Ibrahim Ghazzawy, 20, Abdullah Salihy, 24, brothers Jibryl and Mohamed Almaouie and a 15-year-old boy from Georges Hall.
Mobile phone photos of foreign fighters, Islamic flags, books on warfare, firearms and ammunition have also been seized during raids on the homes of the eight men.
In dozens of recent Facebook posts, Mr Said has disseminated religious teachings including a message that Muslims must hate "kuffar", or non-believers.
"It is an essential part of our religion and a Muslim cannot claim to love Islam while simultaneously having no hatred for the kuffar," he posted on December 21, 2015, two days before five of the eight cell members were arrested.
"Indeed it is from the fundamentals of our religion to hate kufr and its supporters. Unfortunately those who reside amongst them have fallen victim to a deadly disease, and that is having a soft heart and leaning towards the disbelievers."
In other Facebook posts, he condemns "free mixing" between the sexes and celebrating New Year's Eve or Christmas.
His page is also littered with video sermons by Pakistani sheikh Khalid Rashid, who has previously been arrested in South Africa, and American-based preacher Sheikh Ahmad Musa Jibril.
Mr Said's lawyer Muhammad Tehseldar did not apply for bail in Central Local Court on Thursday and asked that his client not appear in court via an audio-visual link from Surry Hills police cells.
It has taken officers almost two years to analyse the handwritten documents and other evidence in order to charge Mr Said.
The cache of notes, contained on A4 pages of a lined notebook, were seized from Mr Khalid's Regents Park home in December 2014.
Mr Said is the 15th man to be charged under Operation Appleby, a joint state and federal police operation investigating Islamic State-inspired domestic terrorism.
