Labor candidate for Macquarie, Susan Templeman has invited Senator Claire Moore to attend two community forums on Monday.
Ms Templeman said she wanted as many people as possible to attend the forums to put their views to the Senator Moore, Labor’s spokeswoman on women, communities and carers.
The first forum will take place at Springwood Sports Club at 1pm on Monday, May 30.
“The purpose of the forum is for Senator Moore to hear from local women and community organisations about their priorities for the area,” Ms Templeman said.
“In particular I want Senator Moore to hear about the effects of the government’s funding cuts to community services.
“These funding cuts have significantly reduced the services community organisations are able to provide to vulnerable people living in the Blue Mountains,” she said.
“The forum will also be an opportunity for people to express their views about what policies and programs government should pursue to promote social justice and a more equitable society.
The second forum will be a carers’ forum held at Katoomba Neighbourhood Centre at 4pm on May 30.
Ms Templeman said the forum would allow carers to speak to Senator Moore about the issues they face as carers.
“I hope people will be able to present ideas about ways they believe the government can support and assist careers,” she said.
“Carers perform invaluable work. I look forward to introducing Senator Moore to as many people as are able to come, including older carers of adult children with disability, male carers and young cares of parents with chronic illness or disability.
“Labor has already announced commitments that will assist these groups of people, including a promise of additional funding for disability advocacy, and a review of the way aged care funding is delivered,” Ms Templeman said.
Ms Templeman said there is still time to RSVP to attend either forum by contacting her office at macquarie.labor@gmail.com .
