Ward 4 councillor, Anton Von Schulenburg, has announced he will not recontest his position at the next council elections.
While Mr Von Schulenburg will not stand at the September 10 election, he has not ruled out an attempt in 2020.
“It’s been a pleasure to serve on council,” he said at last week’s meeting. “It’s a very easy council to be a member of.”
The mayor, Mark Greenhill, paid tribute to Mr Von Schulenburg, a friend of some 20 years standing, who was rather surprisingly elected in 2012.
"One of my proudest moments on council was the night he was elected, when our ticket pulled off the unusual feat of winning two seats in our ward,” Cr Greenhill said.
"Anton is one of those wonderful volunteers who turns up and works hard for the community while asking for nothing in return. So it was just fantastic that his efforts were rewarded and he won a seat on council.
He said Mr Von Schulenburg was central to many decisions of council, including its response to the 2013 fires, its fight over the new LEP and its opposition to Badgerys Creek airport.
"I feel he will be back. He has had a distinguished term as a councillor and he has earned a respected reputation,” Cr Greenhill said.
