The Penrith Basketball Association's three youth league teams were back at the Penrith Valley Regional Sports Centre (PVRSC), Cambridge Park on Sunday, in round 12 of the 2016 Waratah Youth League competition.
The two division one teams hosted the Northern Suburbs Bears, with the men falling 87-75 in the opening game of the day.
Penrith led for most of the game but head coach Jeff Cooper said: "A disappointing game, when we lead for three and a half quarters and let ourselves down with turnovers and allowing uncontested shots to happen".
"We did a good job to contain the competition's leading scorer [Brennan Rymer] to under 20 [18 points] but did allow some easy three-point shots when they [Norths] needed them," he said.
"We also gave up too many foul shots, which is where the game was lost."
Sean Weekes led the Panthers with 21 points, ahead of Adam Lulka (East Blaxland) 17 and Tom Lewer (Springwood) 10.
The Penrith women were up next against the fifth-placed Bears and won a low-key contest 59-40 to maintain their spot at the top of the competition ladder.
Rhiannon Pope led the Panthers with 15 points, ahead of Natalia Beaumont (Emu Heights) 11, Ella Tolaeofo 10 and Chloe Bloom 9.
The division two men were up against the St George Saints on main court two and failed to control the boards, allowing the visitors to record an 87-75 win.
Joel Klein led the Panthers with 17 points, ahead of Ru Daniel 16, Joshua Shephard 14 and Joshua Lillas 13.
The two division one teams host the Newcastle Hunters this Sunday at the PVRSC, with the women's game at 1pm and the men's game at 3pm.
The division two men have a bye.
