Fire & Rescue NSW firefighters at Glenbrook Fire Station will hold a blood drive and community fun day on Saturday, June 18.
The special event will support NSW Police Senior Constable Luke Warburton, who was shot while on duty in January.
The community day will include demonstrations from FRNSW firefighters, the NSW Police Public Order and Riot Squad and the NSW Police Dog Unit. There will also be a Careflight Helicopter flight simulator and a barbecue.
Organiser and Glenbrook firefighter Brendon Roberts said the close-knit community of the Blue Mountains wanted to support Senior Constable Warburton, a friend and emergency services colleague, after he was injured.
“We were all affected and troubled when Senior Constable Warburton was injured and wanted to do something to help,” Firefighter Roberts said.
“On the night he was shot, Senior Constable Warburton had the entire quantity of his blood replaced two and a half times, which undoubtedly saved his life.
“The Red Cross is supporting the Community Fun Day with the Red Cross blood donor bus, and we hope to get 60 donations on the day, which is the maximum the mobile donor bus can receive in one day,” he said.
The day will run from 10am-4pm.
